Introduction
Allowable ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us:
- Account information (email address, display name)
- Profile information (parent or child role)
- Task and allowance data you create within the app
- Photos uploaded as task-completion proof
- Usage data and analytics (Firebase Analytics)
How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide and maintain the Allowable service
- Send push notifications about tasks and allowances
- Improve and personalize your experience
- Ensure the security of our service
- Comply with legal obligations
Photo Storage and Deletion
Task-proof photos are:
- Stored securely in Firebase Storage
- Automatically deleted after a parent approves or rejects the task
- Accessible only to the parent and child involved in that task
- Never shared with third parties or used for any other purpose
Information Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information:
- With service providers (Firebase, Stripe) solely to operate the service
- When required by law or valid legal process
- To protect our rights, users, or the public from harm
Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Allowable is a family app designed for children 10 and older. We comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act):
- Only parents create accounts — children cannot self-register
- Parents provide verifiable consent by verifying their email address and accepting our Terms of Service
- We collect only the minimum information needed to run the service
- Children's data is never used for behavioral advertising
- Parents can review, modify, or delete any child account at any time
Verifiable Parental Consent (COPPA)
We obtain verifiable parental consent for children under 13 through email verification plus explicit agreement to our Terms of Service — a combination that satisfies COPPA's "email plus additional step" requirement. Consent records stored include:
- Timestamp of Terms agreement
- Terms version number
- Parent email address and verification status
- Child account creation date
Parents may revoke consent at any time by deleting their child's account.
Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using:
- Firebase Authentication (encrypted credentials)
- Cloud Firestore (encrypted at rest and in transit)
- Firebase Storage (secure, access-controlled file storage)
We apply industry-standard security measures across all services.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data — see the section at the top of this page
- Opt out of push notifications (via device settings)
Analytics and Tracking
We use minimal, privacy-respecting tracking:
- Firebase Analytics for aggregate app usage data
- Crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics) to fix bugs
- No advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers
- We do not sell analytics data
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
